Indymedia.org domain name down

The Indymedia network lost control of the domain name indymedia.org. According to the announcement from earlier today, the most probable reason is that somebody pointed out to the registrar of the domain that not all the contact data are accurate (name given was ABCDEF ABCDEF, for example). Domain management rules set by ICANN do not allow anonymous registration, which means that a legal entity have to back up all domains. IMC techies are working on the issue, hopefully to regain control of the domain during the next days.

5 minutes silence for the biggest grassroots brandname on the planet.

In the meantime there are technical workarounds for individual users and Internet Service Providers to fix the problem at least on their end. Updates on the situation and detailed description of the workarounds and fixes are available on the emergency pages at metatron. and dereferenced. List of known IMCs that had their own domain names is maintained here.
